22 – 29 July 2018
Once again we opened the residency to artists from any discipline. In 2018 we brought together an illustrator, a print maker, a textile artist, a contemporary dancer/performance maker, a performance artist, a choreographer, a photographer, a film-maker/poet, two composers and a theatre director.
As in 2017 the theme of the week was collaboration and exchanging creative practice. Instead of coming with a pre-existing idea participants planned to work on, they came with an open mind and were inspired by each other’s diverse ways of working. Artists offered a window into their creative practice through skill-share sessions, ranging from rust-dyeing, sound sampling and composition, movement-based performance creation to an illustration workshop where participants discovered faces in objects and a foraging and natural dyeing session. The week was exuberant with lots of dressing up, a synchronised swimming spectacle in an unusually warm North Sea and an improvised ceilidh.
