7 – 14 August 2020
Invererne is a home in the Scottish Highlands where artists take part in creative residencies, living together, close to nature. In summer 2020 we will bring together a group of artists from a diverse range of creative disciplines. The residency is a chance for you to learn about other artist’s approaches – to try out different ways of working and see your practice from a fresh perspective. By stepping outside of your usual ways of making work the week offers a space to refresh and nourish your creativity.
Over the week artists are invited to explore how their individual artistic practices might engage with one another; whether that be through workshops, unstructured creative time, or while cooking dinner. This residency is not focused on developing specific creative projects, but is instead a week dedicated to replenishing your own creativity through collaboration and exchange with artists working in different disciplines.
This is a week to:
- Live and collaborate with other artists
- Be inspired by diverse artistic practices & disciplines
- Learn about your practice by encountering that of others
- Stay in a new environment with time in nature
This residency is not a space to work on a pre-existing project. Instead we invite participants to listen and learn from others, and also share their own knowledge of their discipline and artistic practice. In a world which contains so much pressure to create a marketable end product we feel it is important to offer a laboratory space to try ideas out without any pressure to produce a final product.
There are five ingredients for an Invererne Residency – creativity, collaboration, exchanging practice, sharing food, and nature. We have developed each ‘ingredient’ and how they come together in a way that offers a frame within which participants can be creative. Have a look here to see if it’s something for you.
Dates & Fee
Dates – The residency will begin on at 2pm Friday 7th of August 2020, with artists being collected in Edinburgh and driven up to Invererne by minibus. The group will be dropped back off in Edinburgh around 2pm on Friday 14th of August 2020.
Fee – £350. This includes accommodation, food (vegetarian/vegan) and transport during the week (artists are collected and dropped off from Edinburgh). We are happy to write supporting letters for artists applying for funding to cover costs of their residency fee or transport to Edinburgh.
We are keen for Invererne to be as inclusive as possible, however, unfortunately we cannot accommodate people who use wheelchairs as the building does not yet have step-free access. If you are interested in taking part and have a difficulty which you think may affect your time at Invererne do get in touch.
Applications are open until midday on Friday 28th February, 2020
To receive a copy of the application form or for any queries please email Cara & Hugh at email@example.com. Applicant places will be announced in late March.
* A final note, if travelling from within the UK to Edinburgh for the residency, we are aware there may be a cost implication, we would prefer participants to use overland methods of transport in order to minimise the environmental impact of the residency. See our website’s Ethics & Environment page for more details.
