22 – 29 July 2018
Invererne is a home in the Scottish Highlands where artists take part in creative residencies, living together, close to nature.
This summer we will bring together a group of artists from a diverse range of artistic disciplines. It will be a chance for you to learn about other artist’s approaches – to shift mindset, try out other ways of working, to see things from other perspectives. By stepping outside of your usual ways of making work we hope to offer a space to refresh and nourish your creativity.
Over the week artists are invited to playfully explore how their different individual artistic practices might engage with one another; whether that may through a workshop sharing skills and practice, unstructured creative time, conversations on a walk or while cooking dinner.
This is a week to:
- Live and collaborate with other artists
- Be inspired by diverse artistic practices & disciplines
- Learn about your practice by encountering that of others
- Stay in a new environment with time in nature
This residency is not a space to work on a pre-existing project or idea. Instead we invite participants to come with an open mind, ready to listen and learn from others, and willing to share their knowledge of their own discipline and individual artistic practice. We offer a laboratory space to try ideas out without the pressure to produce a final product.
There are five ingredients for an Invererne Residency – creativity, sharing skills and practice, collaboration, food, and nature. We have developed each ‘ingredient’ and how they come together in a way that offers a frame within which participants can be creative. Have a look here to see if it’s something for you.
Dates & Fee
The residency will run from Sunday 22nd – Sunday 29th of July, 2018
Participant fee: £280
This fee covers being picked up & dropped off in Edinburgh (where the residency starts), food, accommodation and transport during the week for trips to the sea and forests. We require payment in full before the residency, as a lump sum or in instalments. In order to take part artists are asked to attend the entire week.
We are keen for Invererne to be as inclusive as possible, however, unfortunately we cannot accommodate wheelchair users as the building does not yet have step-free access and there will be several outdoor walking excursions over the week. If you are interested in taking part and have a difficulty which you think may affect your time at Invererne do get in touch.
Applications are open until midday on Friday 9th March, 2018
To receive a copy of the application form or for any queries please email Cara & Hugh at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applicant places will be announced in late April.
* A final note, if travelling from within the UK to Edinburgh for the residency we would strongly prefer participants to use overland methods of transport. See our website’s Ethics & Environment page for more details.
